If you run a business and you are not taking advantage of what Google Plus has to offer then you are needlessly missing out on quite a decent opportunity to get ahead of the pack. The new social media platform Google Plus is more than just a good search engine booster for business. It presents a real opportunity for social media savvy business owners to grow in popularity very quickly just by being among the first to set themselves up on G+ and posting regular, interesting, industry-relevant content in amongst your own promotional posts.
Strap yourself in because you are about to find out what you’re missing out on and exactly how to rectify it.
Why? What Am I Missing Out On?
Well, the whole point of making your business popular on a social network is so you can easily advertise your products and services to large amounts of potential customers on the web and G+ presents an ideal opportunity to build a strong marketing tool.
Here’s a quick hypothetical that applies to any business. Imagine you could go back in time to the start of Facebook and be one of the very first businesses to set up a business fan page and, being wise, you know the best way to build in popularity was to regularly post news, images, links, stories and anything else that would keep your Facebook visitors engaged, sharing and coming back for more.
Flash forward a couple of years and you’ve got yourself a community of thousands of people who are interested in what you offer and sharing your posts among their friends. You are now in a position to constantly keep your business at the forefront of thousands of peoples’ minds at the click of a button. Got a special offer? Post it on Facebook and see how quick it gets snapped up now.
The reason for that hypothetical flashback-in-time scenario is because I want to illustrate that with Google Plus, we have almost that exact situation happening all over again but businesses need to strike while the iron is hot to get the greatest benefit. G+ is growing and it’s growing fast. With 250 million users it has already overtaken rival social network LinkedIn in a matter of months and it now has Twitter and Facebook in it’s sights.
So For Businesses Google Plus Is The Next Big Thing?
Take a look at my Google Plus page. It’s the 19th most popular G+ business page in the UK and rising. I’m currently 824th in the world. I’m just one guy, working from home, who started on G+ only 8 months ago.
My small business has more followers on G+ than Audi International, Playboy, Sony Playstation, Blackberry, Lego, WordPress, Arsenal and Ajax football clubs and IBM. Here’s the proof.
This infographic illustrates just how good an opportunity Google Plus can be for your business to gain a major foothold in the social media world. Considering how many people use Google Plus it is massively underused by businesses at the moment. Look at the numbers for the restaurants in the Google Plus column below. I have over 10,000 G+ followers. If I were running a restaurant I’d be in third place, above such huge names like Subway, Dominos and Burger King!
So What Do I Have To Do?
All it takes is to get your business on G+ and post regular, interesting content about your industry. Become the trusted expert in your field. Engage your visitors, get them talking about you and to you. I post news stories, images, blog posts and whatever else I can find about my industry up to 10 times a day and my G+ following grows constantly. I also post as often to my Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages.
You might also notice on my Google+ page that I #hashtag all of the main keywords relating to my industry. This allows even more people to find my page via searches.
But All Of That Is A Full Time Job By Itself!
Sure, for you, finding and posting numerous posts every single day on your Facebook Fan page, Twitter page and Google+ page would take hours from your schedule every single day. This is why you have to get someone who knows their way around the Internet to do it for you so you can be left to run your business.
